Vaginal Prolapse Repair

Vaginal Prolapse Treatment

A prolapse occurs when some of your internal organs such as bladder or bowel move from its original position. This occurs when there is a weakness in the vaginal muscles or ligaments. A prolapse can happen after child birth or following a Hysterectomy. The surgeon can operate using either an open method or Key Hole surgery. You will need a General Anaesthetic for this procedure. The surgeon makes incisions inside the vagina.

The surgeon may need to repair the following

– The front wall which may involve the bladder (anterior prolapse)

– The back wall which may involve the bowels (posterior prolapse)

– Vaginal vault ( where the vaginal walls prolapse to the opening of the vagina)

– A combination of procedures

Please note that we do not use a mesh to repair vaginal prolapse. You will need to avoid lifting anything heavy for 4 weeks post surgery. Stitches do not need to be removed and will dissolve on it own.
